Frequently asked questions

How big are the groups?

Small groups of 4–8 athletes.

Who leads the sessions?

Sam Abrams of The Well leads the programming and planning for Foundations. Sessions are coached by a team of coaches trained on that programming, so your athlete gets consistent, high-quality coaching whether or not Sam is on the floor that day.

Is strength training safe for younger athletes?

Yes — when supervised and programmed correctly. This small-group format prioritizes technique, age-appropriate progressions, and movement quality.

Why play-based training?

Play-based training is engaging and effective. Crawling, rolling, balancing, and dynamic games develop coordination and keep kids engaged.

What ages is this best for?

Ages 11–16, all levels welcome. Contact Sam directly if your athlete is outside this range.

How is Foundations different from Performance?

Foundations is training for younger athletes and those looking for a positive introductory fitness experience. Performance is assessment-driven training built for competition.

What's the training schedule and billing?

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30–5:30 PM, starting September 8. The program runs on an ongoing basis and is billed monthly: $625 for September (prorated from 9/8), then $800/month. Drop-in sessions are available at $150 per session.

Female Participant, age 13

"I really enjoyed Sam's class. The games were energizing, and he made sure to adapt everything to each person's ability level. I now feel more confident lifting weights because we took the time to learn proper exercise technique."

Starts September 8 · Tue & Thu, 4:30–5:30 PM · Palo Alto
